The UK government has a fantastic website where they put all of the public services all in one place. This site is ingenious. I wish that the US government would simplify everything as much as the UK government.
The UK government calls the website Directgov. It brings together a wide range of public service information and services all online. The Central Office of Information produces Directgov for the UK government.
More and more things can be accomplished using the UK government's Directgov. Someone could schedule a driving test or they could apply for a student loan. There are even groups set up on Directgov for a variety of specific audiences. They have a group for disabled people and parents and even groups for money and taxes.
The UK government has done their citizens a great service by producing and well funding Directgov. I found where the web statistics show that the service is really being used. Around two million people per month are using Directgov.
The US government should take a close look at the UK government program of Directgov. It would benefit American citizens so much to have a centralized place with clear information.
Directgov offers job listings. This is a great idea on the part of the UK government. Being able to search online for work all across the country with sophisticated search tools is fantastic.
