Website For Government Benefits

I just found the website for the US government that outlines benefits. You can locate the benefits by state or resources. When I chose the option to look at the government benefits for the state of Texas, I found many interesting things.

Texas offers many government programs. They have an energy assistance program, a food stamp program and a children's health insurance program. I was interested in the Texas Summer Food Service program and when I followed the link, I found that there are a lot of places in the state that will feed kids lunch in the summer.

I found more information on the government funding of breakfast and lunch in school. Low income families in Texas receive a benefit of free breakfast and lunch for the school-age children.

The government sponsors a program called Texas Head Start that promotes readiness for school for low income children aged 3-5. This benefits the government because these students require much less assistance when they start school with certain basic skills.

The government has a program in Hawaii called Quest. This is basically a government program for health insurance. The administrators of the program are the Hawaii Department of Human Services. It sounds like something the state of Texas should look into.

A search of government benefits for the state of Alaska looked pretty similar to the programs available in Texas. They have food stamps, Medicaid and even a Head Start program. It looks like the government services are pretty basic in Alaska.

The state of Maine offers TANF (temporary assistance for needy families) through a government program. Applications for assistance have strict rules and people that accept this benefit do so with the knowledge that improvement in their situation will decrease their benefits.

Of all of the things I learned on the US government benefit website, the service that was listed in most states that I had never heard of was the weatherization program. I'm not sure why I have never heard of this program that insulates the homes of low-income people, but I will be passing this very interesting information to people that I know.
