My City Government
My city government offers a lot of different services. It operates almost seamlessly behind the scenes. I think I don't often notice city government at work but I am sure I would notice if it was not working properly.
Animal control is a part of city government. They maintain a shelter for abused and neglected animals and also deal with the occasional wild animal.
The city government in my town operates a cemetery. It is near the center of the city and it encompasses about 120 acres. The cemetery was established in the late 19th century and still has grave sites available to the public.
Our city government maintains various buildings that the public can rent for various events. I have attended several weddings in the Municipal Ballroom and it is a nice place to hold a big party.
The city government also uses taxes to fund a child care program. You have to be a resident of our city to participate in this program. Fees are charged to parents based on a sliding income scale.
It is comforting to me to know that my city government has an office for emergency management. I'm glad that our community has plans for emergency situations. I depend on my city government to help me in times of crisis.
I am also glad that our city government pays fire fighters to work and does not depend on volunteers. It is good that we have a top-notch fire department that is run by competent individuals.
I really like the library that our city government funds. I am always happy to borrow books and then return them. My kids were very excited when they were able to get a library card of their very own.
My city government offers a lot of services for children during the school year. They also offer a great summer program that gets kids outside and playing. It is a good thing for a city government to offer its residents.
